FATCLAY POTTERY - THE MEMBERSHIP

Our Open Access membership was set up to provide a dedicated studio for ceramicists alike looking for a shared space in a friendly relaxed environment. Whether you’re a novice in the ceramic world or an old dog wanting to practice some new tricks, Fatclay Pottery provides a space where you can work at your own pace and at times that suit you.

With the membership plan you are given your own personal storage space, experienced studio technicians to fire your work, as well as a fully equipped studio providing you with high quality ceramics equipment. The only thing you need to buy yourself is clay which we sell on-site at an affordable price.

Membership includes anytime access during our opening hours, from 2-12 hours per week (depending on the package you sign up to).

What kind of support do I get?

The majority of the time you will find one of our studio technicians on site who will happily assist and advise you with any questions you may have regarding equipment and technique.

We also offer assisted membership should you feel you need a little more assistance on your ceramics journey, these are bookable on an hourly 1-2-1 basis (subject to technician availability).

There are several different price structures to choose from. A 2 month minimum membership term applies. Each session can be booked on a 2 hr slot.

You can sign up for membership by filling the form below.

Who can buy membership?

In order to use the space independently we ask that you have done a beginners course either with us or elsewhere. If you haven’t but are keen to join please talk to us about our taster sessions which will help you learn the basics.

Anyone can purchase the membership package, whether it is for yourself or you are buying it as a gift for someone else. Please just make us aware of this at the time of purchase.

Our membership plan is designed for people aged 16 years and above, if you are interested in a child exploring pottery we offer alternative tutor lead kids pottery sessions at various times each month.

What does the membership include?

Membership includes your own personal storage space and access to shared and general storage, open studio access, use of aprons, tools, glazes aswell as bisque and glaze firing.

I’m a complete pottery novice, can I get membership?

In order to use the space independently we ask that you have done a beginners course either with us or elsewhere. If you haven’t but are keen to join please talk to us about our 4 - 6 week courses which will help you learn the basics. Please click here to see what courses we offer.

What else do I buy?

You will need to purchase your own clay, choice of bagged studio clays (12.5kg) available to purchase directly from us at £11-18 per bag.

Why limit membership hours?

At Fatclay Pottery value for money is key, the studio is set up for part-time use only, that way each member gets fair use of the studio and equipment making it cost effective for all. This is why the maximum membership is currently 12 hours per week (this will be reviewed from time-time)

The studio is unfortunately not equipped for use by full time potters as this would not make it fair for others wanting to use the open access space, we can however offer kiln hire and occasional private hire of certain space (price on application).

Members get 10% discount on all courses.

TIME EXCHANGE PLAN

If you are studying ceramics or have experience and knowledge about working with clay then you can take up a time exchange placement. Instead of paying a membership fee, you give your time working in the studio in return for studio access and kiln firing.  Please get in touch to discuss this option.
